After Completing Additional Cosmetology Hours
When you have completed your cosmetology hours, if needed in your state, you will be prompted to provide the cosmetology certificate number or the number of cosmetology hours completed.
If your state does not require additional cosmetology hours, you will be prompted to verify your address in order to make any changes to your personal information. If you have recently gotten married or divorced, you may need to provide proof of the legal name change such as a marriage license.
You will then be asked to submit your credit/debit card number or check routing number in order to pay for the license renewal. The fee varies with each state. Once payment is made, you will see a new screen that has approved your payment. There should be a receipt number given at that time. Print this number out or write it down for future reference. You will need this number in case your renewed license is not received in the mail.
If your state requires additional cosmetology hours approved by the state board, once you finish your license renewal online, you might be asked to mail your continuing education hours in cosmetology certificates to the state board as proof that you took the additional cosmetology hours. There should be instructions on the state board website that will tell you were to mail copies of your certificate(s) to.
Try not to wait until the last week of the required renewal. Many states are understaffed and cannot get to all the renewals in one week. Renew about 8 weeks before the expiration date for renewal. This will make your renewal more likely to be done in a timely manner so that you are not without a current license in the workplace.
If your cosmetology license has expired, go to the state board website and follow the instructions on what to do in order to renew an expired license. Be sure to fill out all of the paperwork exactly as the instructions are outlined. If no instructions are listed on the website, then call the number given on the website to obtain the information.
This should give you all the information you need after completing your cosmetology hours to renew your license with the state board of cosmetology.
